Core Plasma Thomson Scattering

Customer: IDOM, Bilbao

The Core Plasma Thomson Scattering (CPTS) diagnostic on ITER performs real-time measurements of the electron temperature and density profiles of the plasma. Measurements are based on the scattering of laser light from electrons inside the plasma. The scattered light will be collected by the collection optics and analyzed by spectrometers.

Design drivers

  • High thermal loads
  • High optical performance requirements in combination with restricted envelope

KTO is responsible for the design of collection optics.
